Trading Ontario for Island RV Life: Heather’s First Winter Camping in Parksville

So, picture this: Instead of shoveling snow in Ontario, you’re waking up to the sound of a river on Vancouver Island in your RV.

That’s exactly what Heather and her family did this winter! They’re brand-new RVers, recently retired, and they decided to ditch the snow for some island fun. And guess what? They landed right here at Pathfinder Parksville for their very first Vancouver Island RV winter camping.

They even jumped into the Englishman River on New Year’s Day for a polar bear plunge! How’s that for starting the year with a splash?

We’re so happy to chat with Heather about her experience, get the inside scoop on winter RVing, and find out what it’s like to trade those chilly Ontario winters for life on Vancouver Island.

Pathfinder Parksville (PP): So Heather, what inspired you to try RV camping this winter season, and what drew you specifically to Vancouver Island?

Heather: “We’re recently retired and new to RVing. Exploring Vancouver Island was first on our list. And we were specifically trying to avoid snow in Ontario.”

PP: We can definitely understand that! How did you find out about Pathfinder Parksville?

Heather: “We heard from a fellow camper that Pathfinder is a beautiful park and when came to check it out, Tony’s hospitality convinced us that it would be a great experience.”

PP: That’s great to hear! How’s it been so far? Any highlights you’d like to share?

Heather: “Right from the start, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. We’ve met great people who have been helpful and share local gems that really helped us settle in. Our hosts Tony and Nicole are absolutely amazing. They are always making sure we have everything we need. From morning coffee sessions to game nights, we are having a blast.”

PP: It sounds like you’re having an amazing time! Now, for the important question, any advice for other folks thinking about trying winter RVing for the first time?

Heather: “Watch out for condensation inside the trailer. Dehumidifiers will help. Don’t let the weather stop you. Just get the gear and get out there. Soak up the island vibes.”

Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us, Heather.
