From Coffee to Cold Plunges: A Winter Camping Friendship Story

Winter camping isn’t just about cozying up in your RV all alone, sometimes, it’s where you meet amazing people, too! That’s exactly what happened to Heather when she met Lynn at Pathfinder Parksville winter camping program. Read how Heather found her winter camping friendship.

A Friendship Sparked Over Coffee

Heather first met Lynn at the campground’s weekly coffee chats. “Each week, I realized we had more and more in common,” Heather shared. “We laughed at the same jokes and often ended up saying the exact same thing. We’d just look at each other like we had an inside joke!”

Before long, those coffee chats turned into endless conversations, and the two became best friends.

At Pathfinder Parksville, our managers always plan fun activities for winter campers! From breakfast gatherings and potlucks to games nights, there’s always something to bring people together.

Doing Fun Things Together

Heather and Lynn found plenty of fun things to do together at the park. They loved walking through the campground, collecting heart-shaped rocks, and spotting birds and wildlife.

When Heather bought new hummingbird feeders, Lynn went out and found stands for them too! “Who does that?” Heather said. “Someone with a big heart and a kind soul.”

They even took a cold plunge together when FeelGood Collective opened their sauna space at the park’s riverside. Lynn also took Heather and her husband, Mark, on adventures to hidden local gems they never would’ve found on their own.

“Her local knowledge is legendary,” Heather said. “We nicknamed her Google-Lynn because everyone at the park asks her for advice!”

A Warm Community That Welcomes

When asked if she expected to make a friend while winter camping, Heather admitted she was mostly hoping to escape winter itself! But what she found at Pathfinder Parksville was so much more: a welcoming community where friendships naturally blossom.

“There are many planned events, and unplanned ones too, like a recent music jam when a fellow guest held her fiddle practice and invited the park to enjoy some home-grown Canadian fiddling,” Heather recalled. “It’s a special place where guests share their talents, and most importantly, look out for one another.”

Friendship That Goes the Extra Mile

Heather described Lynn as someone who consistently went above and beyond. During their Christmas Potluck, Lynn brought a delicious dessert from a local chocolatier in Nanaimo. When Heather mentioned how much she loved it, Lynn didn’t hesitate, she went out and picked up an extra batch just for Heather.

“That’s just the kind of thoughtful person she is,” Heather said.

Meeting New People at the Campground

For anyone feeling nervous about meeting new people while camping, Heather offers this advice:

“Meeting new people is always a challenge at any age or stage of life. But when special people like Lynn welcome everyone the way she does, it’s impossible not to love this RV life. Relying on friends leads to new adventures and the best time of your life!”

Heather’s story is a perfect reminder that winter camping at Pathfinder Camp Resorts is more than staying in a warmer place but it’s a chance to connect with wonderful people and make memories that last a lifetime. You might just meet someone who becomes more than a fellow camper, they could become a lifelong friend.

So, if you’re looking for a winter camping filled with friendship and adventure, Pathfinder Camp Resorts winter program is the place to be. Stay tuned for our upcoming season!
