For over 37 years, Susanne M. and her family have made Pathfinder Parksville their summer sanctuary. What started as a simple family camping trip with a baby blossomed into a cherished tradition that has seen countless memories made amidst the towering trees and rushing waters of the Englishman River.
A heartwarming story of family, friendship, and finding love in a beautiful place.
“We fell in love with the campground immediately,” recalls Susanne. “It had everything we wanted: a beautiful setting, activities for the kids, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. We knew this was where we wanted to create our summer memories.”
And memories they made! Susanne’s daughter Theressa even found her true love at Pathfinder Parksville – Paul, a young man who had traveled all the way from England. Their love story unfolded against the backdrop of the river and starry nights, proving that romance can bloom anywhere.

When Pathfinder took over the campground, there was a moment of uncertainty. Would their beloved summer tradition be disrupted? But their fears were quickly allayed as we embraced the family with open arms and ensured their cherished spots remained theirs.
The family tradition continued, with Theressa and Paul bringing their children to the family camping trip every summer. It even became the setting for a magical proposal when Theressa’s daughter got engaged beside the Englishman River!
A Legacy of Love and Family
Last year, Pathfinder Parksville had the honor of celebrating Susanne’s 80th birthday. Her family commemorated the occasion with a beautiful plaque on her favorite bench – a testament to the enduring love and gratitude they feel for this special place.
Susanne’s story is a reminder that Pathfinder Parksville is more than just a campground; it’s a place where families create lifelong memories, strengthen their bonds, and find joy in the simple pleasures of life.
As Susanne puts it, “This place is more than just a campground to us. It’s where we’ve laughed, cried, celebrated, and made memories that will last a lifetime.”
